Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in Canada and the United States including some other regions as well. The festival is celebrated in order to give thanks to nature for having blessed the regions with the harvest of the preceding year. Thanksgiving is usually celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of the month of November.

At present, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Also I could not have found a better featured image than this one for my blog post. The credit goes to @prochurchmedia. My social media feed is full of people deciding on their Thanksgiving Day plans! In India, where I am from, we do not celebrate this day. Nevertheless, the idea of having a whole day dedicated to giving Thanks intrigues me with every passing year!

India has an agricultural economy, i.e. more than 75 percent of its population is engaged into agricultural activities. This is why I have always felt that Indians need to celebrate Thanksgiving as well in order to honour its rich soil and all those whose hard work blessed us with good food.

Thanksgiving is a festival which also teaches us the power of gratitude – the power of giving thanks for all that we have received. With gratitude comes supply i.e. the more grateful we are about the things that we have already received, the more things we will continue to receive in order to be grateful for! Which is why here are three more reasons why I feel that Thanksgiving should be celebrated by us as well!

  1. Thanksgiving makes us realize that we have a lot to be thankful for. It makes us go through the process of looking at our blessings – the things that we already have and to be thankful for them! Each of us have many reasons to give thanks for in spite of being in difficult situations – we just have to look better!
  2. It gives us the joy of having a meal with the people that we love and spend a whole day with them thanking God for their presence. This helps cherish and maintain our relationships!
  3. Make us overcome the negative feelings of what we do not have and opens up a way to have all that we want through expressing gratitude!
I hope that you have a warm and happy Thanksgiving with all your near and dear ones! This year I will be celebrating one with my close family as well! 🙂 P.S. stay tuned for some amazing must have last minute thanksgiving goodies – coming soon! Love, Pooja! 🙂
